Application Of Cluster Analysis In Lighting Energy Sources In Kenya
The Kenyan Government Kenya has put in place extensive measures to connect Kenyans to power, especially electricity. In this study, we considered the top 22 counties in Kenya with the most number of households based on the 2009 census. These counties include: Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Meru, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Bungoma, Kisii, Mombasa, Muranga, Machakos, Kisumu, Isiolo, Kitui, Uasin-Gishu, Nyeri, Kilifi, Siaya, Makueni, Migori, Bomet, Kakamega and Trans-Nzoia. We looked at electricity, solar power, lantern, pressure lamp, tin lamp, gas lamp, fuel wood, among others as the main source of lighting. Hierarchical and Partitioning clustering techniques were used to come up with clusters that visually show how the various counties source lighting energy. Relevant graphs and illustrative results have been presented. These results will help in better planning of power distribution.
