Experimental Design And Analysis In Plant Breeding Of Sweet Potatoes.
In this paper,we seek to research on design of experiment and experimental analysis in plant breeding of sweet potatoes using R programme packages associated with agriculture. The modern development of plant breeding is based on principles of genetics and statistics.Genetics became the fundamental science for plant breeders who try to change the genetic constitution of plants to breed new and better varieties for farmers. Selection of parental materials and good mating designs in conventional plant breeding are the keys to the successful plant breeding programmes in sweet potatoes. In all mating designs, the individuals are taken randomly and crossed to produce progenies which are related to each other. A form of multivariate analysis or the analysis of variance is used to estimate the components of variances. Therefore, this review is aimed at highlighting the most used mating design in sweet potato breeding and genetics studies. It provides easy and quick insight of the different form of mating designs and some statistical components for successful plant breeding.Package Agricolae is by far the most used package in this task of plant breeding. It supports planning of lattice designs, factorial designs and randomized complete block design.Analysis includes both conventional quantitative genetics as well as molecular breeding tools. The functionalities include analysis of designs specific to plant breeding needs such as Augmented block designs, Genotype x Environment and stability and variance component.
